Aircraft Maintenance Squadron gives to Fisher House of the Emerald Coast

HURLBURT FIELD, FL --  The 801st Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron donated approximately $550 worth of donations, food and household items to the Fisher House of the Emerald Coast, April 15.

In the six weeks leading up to the donation drop off, the squadron printed flyers and decorated collection bins that were placed throughout the 801st SOAMXS work centers.

Tech. Sgt. Richard Bekolay, CV-22 aircraft assistant section chief, lead POC for the event briefed the squadron at Commander’s Call about the importance of the Fisher House and the collection drive effort.

“We wanted to do this because it is one of the ways that we as a team from Hurlburt Field can not only give back to the community, but help our fellow service members out as well.” said Bekolay.

Fisher Houses provide military families housing close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury.

“As Executive Director for the Fisher House, it’s our job to take care of all our guests needs,” said Kim Henderson. “When groups like the 801st SOAMXS donate necessities, it frees up our funds for other areas to ease the burden on our guests. It really lets those staying at the house know how much people care about them.”

Donating items to the Fisher House directly helps families who are in stressful situations, thus creating an environment for Airmen and families to thrive.

“It’s always amazing to see how the military sticks together,” said Henderson.
