Approximately 18 Command Post controllers work alternating shifts 24/7 to ensure the base operations run smoothly. Airmen assigned to the command post act as a conduit for all communications ranging from authenticating official messages, to connecting people to various helping agencies and base senior leaders, to affecting the positive control of assigned forces and weapons systems during an emergency response or real-world operation. Through the use of communications systems and consoles, the Airmen in the command post are the central nervous system of the base during peacetime, humanitarian and contingency operations.
