New TLF now open at Hurlburt

HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- The 1st Special Operations Force Support Squadron new temporary lodging facility (TLF) is now open after a ribbon cutting ceremony Dec. 18, 2015, here.

Col. Sean Farrell, commander of the 1st Special Operations Wing, hosted the event for Airmen and their families.

"The TLF modernization and the sustainment of the existing units are great examples of Hurlburt Field getting after providing a lasting impression of the very best environment for our Airmen and their families as they first arrive or depart Hurlburt Field," said Farrell.

A 2013 Air Force Services Agency Right Sizing study identified a shortage of 30 TLF units at Hurlburt Field.

The new two bedroom TLF began construction in June, 2014, and set improving the living quarters for Airmen and their families’ transitioning to and from Hurlburt in motion, as well as meeting the shortage of TLF units.

“The new TLF building has eight two bedroom units,” said Robert Campbell, the lodging manager with the 1st Special Operations Force Support Squadron. “This will allow us to house larger families who are transitioning in and out of Hurlburt Field.”

Before the opening of the new TLF, Hurlburt had 24 one bedroom units available for occupancy.

“In fiscal year 2015, we had to send 484 families downtown because we couldn’t accommodate them,” said Campbell. “By having these units, [we] will be able to house larger families which will save the Air Force travel dollars.”

Along with the addition of the eight new TLF units, the original units are getting upgraded as well.

“We just completed flooring, drapery, counter tops and bedding upgrades,” said Campbell. “The next scheduled upgrade will be in 2021 which will include a whole room upgrade.”
