Munch 'n Mend gives back to Hurlburt Airmen

HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- Hurlburt Field’s monthly Munch ‘n Mend took place Feb. 8, at the base chapel, here.

Munch ‘n Mend is a monthly chapel program where Airmen of all ranks, enlisted and officer, can take their uniforms to have rank, badges, name and Air Force tapes sewn on.

“The uniforms can be either new or alterations to current ones, if the member was promoted,” said Chaplain (Capt.) Mark Hunsinger with the 1st Special Operations Wing.

Additionally, the program offers a home-cooked meal to those attending.

“It’s great,” said Staff Sgt. Marcus Carter, documentation NCO in-charge with the 1st Special Operations Maintenance Squadron. “I got to enjoy a free meal, have my stripes sewn on my uniform and keep money in my pocket.”

Volunteers, consisting of individuals who attend chapel services, either cook food or set up their sewing machines to give back to their base community.

“Most of our volunteers are retired Air Force members who know what it means to serve and they want to give back because they care.” said Hunsinger. “Everyone needs these services done at different times throughout their career, if we can provide them a no cost to the member, then it is a win for them and us as we seek to glorify God by serving Airmen.”

Munch n Mend is open to those even if they don’t need alterations made.

“The meal is free and available to all of Team Hurlburt,” Hunsinger added. “It is an opportunity to experience community and get connected.”

Munch ‘n Mend occurs the second Monday of every month from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Members looking for more information can contact the Chapel at 884-7795.
