Green Dot Call to Action Review, Program Updates

Greetings to all!

Our Green Dot Call to Action week was a huge success! We had members from every squadron on the installation cash in Green Dot poker chips during the call to action week – this could be done after showing that they support the culture change that is reflected by the Green Dot program either through social media, in work or home space, or while hanging out perhaps wearing something that prompts the conversation “what’s with the green dot?” The 1st Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron cashed in the most chips and the Green Dot team will work with their booster club to contribute toward their holiday event. Great Job everyone!

During that week, we also did an upstanding bystander assessment. We staged six scenarios across the base, four domestic violence incidents, one sexual assault and one stalking case. In four instances, the bystanders who were in the vicinity intervened! Those Airmen will be recognized by the 1st Special Operations Wing’s leadership for being willing to step up and be proactive. The individuals are:

Lastly, everyone had an opportunity that week to participate in the squadron creative photo challenge. The squadron that put together the most creative and descriptive photo was the 1st SOFSS. Culture change is fun! We can work together and grow the culture change faster by discussing what we see, hear and feel about what happens in our space, at home, at work and in the community.

Like Col. Thomas Palenke, the commander of the 1st SOW, said on the Hurlburt Field Official Facebook page, we are a family at Hurlburt, and I too agree that we have embraced the culture change because we care. That was evidenced by how many of you came out to support the call to action week events.

Thank you to our leadership for the top down support of our events, and of the Green Dot Message, and thanks Team Hurlburt for being open-minded about creating change and actively making it happen! Through our combined efforts, I am hopeful that not only Team Hurlburt will feel the positive impact of our upstanding bystander community but our surrounding communities will also experience a reduction in interpersonal violence.

As we move into the holiday season and share time with family and friends, be mindful that what we choose to do has ripple effects. Let’s continue caring and sharing! Spread the word about Green Dot, a culture change ultimately defined by taking care of one another.
