DEERS welcomes same sex couples
Changes following the ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act have made it so married same-sex couples are eligible to be enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System by their sponsors and get their dependent identification card beginning today. Karissa Arnett, spouse of a deployed Air Force major, holds her daughter Ruby at the front desk of the Military Personnel Flight of Hurlburt Field, Fla., Sept. 3, 2013. Arnett is the first spouse of a same-sex couple at Hurlburt Field to file her marriage certificate to be recognized by the Department of Defense as an eligible member for dependent benefits.
