New ammo-linking machine to save Air Force millions

Munitions specialists assigned to the 1st Special Operations Wing examine 30 mm rounds during training on a new ammunition linking machine at Hurlburt Field, Florida, April 21, 2026. Due to the divestment of the A-10 Thunderbolt II, Air Force Special Operations Command is projected to receive a large influx of surplus unlinked ammunition. The new machine allows Airmen to assemble the rounds in-house for the AC-130J Ghostrider, saving the Air Force millions in vendor costs. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Isabel Tanner)
