Two Airmen assigned to the 720th Special Tactics Group were recently selected as two of the Air Force's 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year for 2007.

Tech. Sgt. Jonathan McCoy and Staff Sgt. David Orvosh competed with other nominees representing major commands, direct reporting units, field operating agencies and air staff agencies across a spectrum of enlisted ranks and career fields throughout the Air Force. Sergeants McCoy and Orvosh and the other Airmen were selected based on superior leadership, job performance, community involvement and personal achievement.

"We are extremely proud of Sergeant McCoy and Sergeant Orvosh for achieving this highest of honors," said Col. Marc Stratton, 720th STG commander. "For a community as small as ours to garner two of the 12 Outstanding speaks volumes. These men are representative of the entire special tactics force who remain heavily engaged in the fight forward, executing our wartime mission."

Sergeant Orvosh, a combat controller assigned to the 21st Special Tactics Squadron at Pope Air Force Base, N.C., was awarded the Bronze Star for actions during a 2005 deployment. He has also received an Air Medal and an Aerial Achievement Medal throughout his three combat deployments.

Sergeant McCoy is a pararescuman assigned to the 24th STS also at Pope. He has been awarded two Bronze Stars, one for valor, throughout his four combat deployments. In 2006, Sergeant McCoy was named NCO of the year for Pope.

Colonel Stratton said both Airmen were recently promoted and credited their accomplishments.

"It's not a coincidence that both of these fine NCOs were recently promoted," he said. "That indicates the great potential they have shown for increased responsibility."

Sergeants Orvosh and McCoy will be honored during the Air Force Association's Air and Space Conference and Technology Exposition in Washington, D.C., in September.
They will also serve as members of the AFA's enlisted advisory council for the next year.
