The 2006 Combined Federal Campaign started with a bang at the Emerald Coast Conference Center Tuesday where more than 400 committee members and volunteers from Hurlburt Field, Eglin Air Force Base, Duke Field and local postal offices gathered for food, prizes, camaraderie and encouragement.

The campaign starts Monday and runs through Nov. 7. The Hurlburt Field committee is hoping for an increase in participation from last year's campaign.

"There was a decline in participation do to Hurricane Katrina," said Capt. James Turner, 605th Test and Evaluation Squadron and one of Hurlburt's CFC project officers. "But we feel that 40 percent is an obtainable participation goal for the base."

Each squadron has at least one coordinator and several key workers who will be supplying pledge cards complete with instructions and pamphlets listing the eligible charities and their descriptions.

"What Team Hurlburt needs to remember is that every cent helps, whether it's a one-time donation or a payroll deduction," said Captain Turner. "The theme is 'give locally, reach globally' - so no matter what you give, it will help."

The leadership gifts for donations have also changed.

Pens, thermal coffee mugs and beach/lunch coolers will be available for contributors to enjoy, depending on the level of giving.

Eagle level receives a pen, Super Eagle givers will get a stainless steel travel mug, Top Eagle prize is a beach/lunch cooler and the Top Eagle Plus contributor will receive both the travel mug and the cooler.

"We're excited about the campaign this year," said Captain Turner. "We're also confident that we'll not only meet but exceed our monetary and participation goals."
