Last year, the Air Force introduced a program to 8- 18- year-old youths to motivate them to get up, get out and get fit, but beginning in early October it will open to 6- 8-year-olds as well.

"At the end of October we plan to give out quarterly awards to the best kids," said Ms. Hammer.

The FitFactor program has more than 100 participants on Hurlburt Field, who earn points and prizes by completing tasks.

The tasks include anything from cleaning their room or walking the dog, to competing in base sports and activities.

"The goal is to get kids motivated to be more active," said Katherine Hammer, youth center recreation assistant.

FitFactor works by giving kids points for tasks they complete. Children track the points by logging in to www.afgetfit.com and entering points into the system.

As points build up, kids will move from tier to tier of the program, earning prizes as they achieve a new level. The levels include energy, strength, agility, adventure and endurance. Prizes are also giving out during a random monthly drawing.

The program is free to enter and takes about 5 minutes to register.

Visit the youth center to register. Children under 13 years old must have their parents consent.
