Kelly Ogden Commando staff HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- The 16th Services Squadron Youth Center has begun registration for its annual basketball clinic, which will be held July 26 for 6 – 10-year-olds and July 27 for 11-year-olds and up. The clinic is free to all participants and will be held at the youth center for up to 30 children per day. The clinic consists of teaching children the basic fundamentals of basketball and familiarizing them with basic basketball terminology. "Attendees will learn basic techniques to practice at home," said Ed Vieth. "With practice, they will improve their confidence and abilities prior to the beginning of the season. Participants will be provided detailed basic skill instruction on proper warm-ups, dribbling, passing, shooting and identification of court areas." The youngsters will be instructed on how to play basketball as a team and will be encouraged to cultivate their own skills, said Nick Tsanos, youth center program director. "The program was started to generate interest and participation in basketball," said Mr. Vieth, youth center director. "It's important that the children have an introduction period where they can improve their skills before the season starts."
