HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. -- Hwy 98 at Hurlburt Field will be closed to all through traffic on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, at 10:00 p.m. through Sunday, Oct, 30, 2022, at 8:00 a.m. in order to reinstall the pedestrian bridge.
In addition, traffic on Hwy 98 will be reduced to 2-lanes and the westbound access ramp to Hwy 98 will be closed beginning at 5:00 p.m. on 29 Oct 22 to allow for a crane set up on the westbound lanes.
At 8:00 a.m. on Oct. 30, 2022, Hwy 98 traffic will reopen in the 2-lane configuration until approximately 10:00 AM at which time Hwy 98 will fully reopen to traffic.
• Traffic will be allowed to go from Soundside on Cody Ave to the main base and back, through the Hwy 98 underpass, during the entire time period. Traffic on Cody will not be allowed to enter Hwy 98, to the east or west, while Hwy 98 is closed.
• Off-base (non-DoD ID cardholders) traffic will need to travel up to I-10, from the east and from the west.
• DoD ID card holders will be able to use the temporary McMillian gate on Hwy 98, west of the pedestrian bridge (shown on the graphic).
• Also, East gate and McMillan gate will both open at 10pm, when Hwy 98 east-west traffic is shut down.
Please plan accordingly.
Of note: The bridge will not immediately be re-opened to pedestrian traffic, as there is still work to be done while the bridge is in place. Leadership expects to re-open to pedestrian traffic prior to Christmas.
