The Air Force's only Air Operations Center Formal Training Unit recently earned the Community College of the Air Force's highest compliance inspection rating.

This marks the third time the unit has earned this rating since its 2004 inception. The rating is based on the principles of accreditation from the Commission of Colleges and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The inspection included Hurlburt Field FTU training partners, U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center, Mobility Operations School Detachment 1, and the U.S. Army Joint Support Team.

Nine courses are offered for service members in the command and control field for CCAF credit. Airmen, as well as soldiers, sailors and Marines, can request transcripts from the CCAF registrar.

"Being able to offer college credit is an added benefit we work hard to provide the joint war fighters attending our courses," said Lt. Col. Björn Holmquist, 505th Training Squadron commander. "Our focus is expertly educating and training a world-class force of C2 warriors. Offering college credit hours to graduates enhances mission readiness, recruiting and retention."

The inspection consisted of commander's support, school liaison responsibility and reporting, graduate reporting and records, instructor database reporting, faculty status, course management, documentation and electronic faculty folders.

CCAF officials highlighted the unit's successful development of joint war fighting courseware during the inspection.

The FTU offers 14 courses, meeting the Air Force need to produce well-trained, educated and professional C2 war fighters. They will be prepared to meet the challenges of an increasingly sophisticated, complex and expeditionary force, Holmquist said. The CCAF-accredited courses provide up to 52 college credit semester hours and are taught by 40 instructors.

The courses are:
  • Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Technician Course, five credit hours
  • Combat Plans and Operations Technician Course, four credit hours
  • Network Administrator Course, three credit hours
  • Systems Administrator Course, six credit hours
  • Airspace Course, nine credit hours
  • Interface Control Operator Course, seven credit hours
  • Personnel Recovery Coordination Cell Course, four credit hours
  • Academic Instructor Course, three credit hours
  • Air Mobility Division Course, 11 credit hours
The FTU graduated more than 1,300 joint and multinational war fighters last year. Each graduate trained on C2 organizations, processes and systems, which are used to employ air and space forces at the operational level of war.
