The Single Airman Program Initiative and Hurlburt Field Landing Zone hosted a Free Airman Golf Fun Day at Gator Lakes Golf Course here Sept. 27.

"These programs are about wingmen getting together to enjoy some 'Fun Time in the Down Time,'" said Robert Scott, 1st Special Operations Force Support Squadron Landing Zone director and event coordinator. "We had close to 100 Airmen of all ranks out having a great time with friends and coworkers."

The Airmen checked in at noon at the Gator Lakes clubhouse, where they received six yellow golf balls each, then gathered at the driving range for a quick briefing and group photo.

Shortly after, the 92 Airmen formed into teams of four and dispersed to their respective holes for a "shotgun" start.

During the event Scott challenged Airmen in "longest drive" and "closest to the pin" contests. Prizes ranged from hats to golf clubs.

"I love to see all the smiling faces," Scott said. "And, for those who bested me in almost every 'whack the yellow ball competition,' I will be ready for the next event; someone will owe me a [soda]."

Many enjoyed the event and called it a nice start to their weekend.

"The Airmen golf day was a great opportunity to get out of the office with some co-workers and enjoy an afternoon together without having to worry about my budget," said Airman 1st Class Emmett Unbehagen III, 1st Special Operations Communications Squadron cyber system operator. "My commander even made it out to play along with us."

The Landing Zone offers events like this on a regular basis. For more information, call Robert Scott at (850) 884-5080 or visit the Hurlburt Field Community Center (The Landing Zone) Facebook page.
