Every July a new group of Airmen step up, apply and take leadership roles for 12 months as a member of the Hurlburt Airman’s Voice council to improve the whole Airman concept to ensure stronger Airman for the world’s strongest Air Force.

This council acts as a direct line between Airmen and their leadership to encourage Air Commandos to express their likes, dislikes and ideas for what they would like changed on the base. The council takes suggestions from Airmen and takes them to the proper leadership channels to accomplish this mission.

“Not only does the HAV help Airmen make their lives better, but it allows them a chance to have a voice and get involved with other Airmen on base.” said Airman 1st Class Kleo Edgell, president of Hurlburt Airman’s Voice. “Attending the meetings allows Airmen to grow in different areas; networking, cross-training or volunteering their time with other Airmen.”

The council is also responsible for hosting events such as the Halloween Social Media Contest, Thanksgiving dinner and holiday parties. These events encourage Airmen to get involved with each other to help build morale and form relationships, said Airman 1st Class Katelyn Scott, event coordinator for HAV.

Recently, HAV helped installed WIFI in the dayrooms so dorm Airmen without a personal internet connection could stay resilient by staying connected with family and friends through the web.

“It’s a huge morale booster,” said Airman 1st Class Lukas Anderson, a contacting specialist with the 1st Special Operations Contracting Squadron. “It definitely helps Airmen who can’t get their own WiFi.”

Airmen who are a part of this committee, such as Scott, feel as though it gives them an opportunity to help fellow Airmen.

“I am very grateful to be able to be a part of this organization,” Scott said. “The HAV provides opportunities for Airmen to succeed in educational, professional and social aspects.”

For Airmen who want to get involved with the HAV council, contact Airman 1st Class Kleo Edgell, or attend one of the meetings held the last Tuesday of every month at the Chapel at 11 a.m.
